Heidelberger strengthens digital platforms division with Docufy acquisition

PKBR Staff Writer Published 08 June 2017

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen has acquired Germany-based software developer Docufy for an undisclosed price.

Based in Bamberg, Docufy develops professional software solutions that are used for technical documentation. It is also claimed to be the first provider of multi-level documentation.

The company's solutions streamline the processes that take place in the creation of technical documentation. Besides, the solutions make them available digitally across all departments, throughout the entire value chain.

The acquisition of Docufy aligns with the portfolio of the Heidelberg Digital Platforms division, which provides IT solutions for digitizing and automating processes related to designing, producing, and servicing high-tech products.

Heidelberg CEO Rainer Hundsdörfer said: “With the takeover of Docufy, we are gradually implementing our strategy ‘Heidelberg goes digital!’. But the investment in the growth market of digital product life cycle management will also strengthen our own competitiveness.”

The acquisition will expand the existing base of Heidelberg’s industrial customers. It also provides additional turnover and revenue potential for the engineering company.

Heidelberg board member who heads the company’s Digital Business and Services division said: “With Docufy, Heidelberg is gaining access to other Industry 4.0 technologies and expertise such as web services, smart devices, internet technologies, augmented reality, and cloud computing.

“The gradual integration of the Docufy solutions into the overall portfolio of Heidelberg Digital Platforms will enable us to offer our industrial customers end-to-end process support in product life cycle management in the future. In this way, Heidelberg is underlining its leading position in the area of digitization.”

Docufy, which employs around 80 people, registered a turnover of €6.5m in 2016. Its founder and managing director, Uwe Reißenweber will continue in the same role.
